Account configuration

GoHighLevel setup, configured around how you actually sell

A new GoHighLevel account is a blank platform, not a product. Setup is the work of turning it into something your team can actually run on — configured for your sales process, your channels and your compliance obligations.

Quick answer

What does GoHighLevel setup involve?

GoHighLevel setup is the initial configuration of an account: creating pipelines and stages, custom fields, calendars and booking rules, core workflows, forms and funnels, connecting phone numbers and email domains, completing messaging compliance registration, and integrating the platform with the other tools a business already uses.

The problem

What this actually fixes

  • The account is live but empty, and the default pipeline stages describe nothing about your business.

  • Nobody is sure which of the platform's forty features you are supposed to turn on first.

  • Emails land in spam because the sending domain was never authenticated.

  • Texts silently fail because A2P 10DLC registration was never completed.

  • Calendar bookings clash because availability and buffer rules were left at defaults.

  • Contacts imported from the old system arrived with mismatched fields and duplicate records.

Scope

What's included

Every engagement is scoped to what you actually need. This is the full deliverable list.

  1. Deliverable 01

    Account and sub-account structure

Locations, users, permissions and branding set up correctly at the start, so you are not unpicking it after a year of data.

  2. Deliverable 02

    Pipelines, stages and custom fields

Modelled on your real sales process, with the fields you need to report on later rather than a generic template.

  3. Deliverable 03

    Calendars and booking rules

Availability, buffers, round-robin assignment, team routing, confirmations, reminders and reschedule paths.

  4. Deliverable 04

    Core workflows

The automations every business needs first — new lead response, missed-call text-back, appointment reminders and no-show recovery.

  5. Deliverable 05

    Email and SMS infrastructure

Domain authentication, dedicated sending setup, number provisioning and warm-up, so messages arrive rather than bounce.

  6. Deliverable 06

    A2P 10DLC registration

Brand and campaign registration submitted and tracked through approval — the step most self-setups discover only after texts stop delivering.

  7. Deliverable 07

    Data import and de-duplication

Contacts, notes and history migrated with fields mapped correctly and duplicates merged, not stacked.

  8. Deliverable 08

    Handover and training

A recorded walkthrough of every workflow plus written documentation, so the system is operable without us.

How it works

From first call to running system

  1. Step

    Discovery

    Day 1

How leads reach you, who works them, what happens at each stage, and which tools have to keep talking to each other.

  2. Step

    Configuration plan

    Days 2–3

A written map of pipelines, fields, calendars, workflows and integrations, approved before anything is built.

  3. Step

    Build and connect

    Week 1

The account configured, numbers and domains connected, compliance registration submitted, data imported.

  4. Step

    Test

Every workflow fired against real scenarios — duplicate submissions, out-of-hours enquiries, reschedules, failed sends.

  5. Step

    Launch and train

Go live, walk the team through it, hand over documentation.

Use cases

Where this earns its keep

First-time GoHighLevel account

You bought the platform and want it configured properly rather than learning it under deadline pressure.

Replacing a patchwork of tools

A CRM, a scheduler, an email platform and several spreadsheets consolidated into one system.

New location or brand

An additional sub-account that needs the same standard as the original, without rebuilding by hand.

Setup, or a full expert build?

These overlap, so the honest distinction is scope. Setup takes an empty or near-empty account and configures the fundamentals: pipelines, calendars, core workflows, messaging infrastructure, data. It is the right engagement when you know how you sell and need the platform to reflect it.

A full expert build starts a layer earlier — architecting the system, adding AI voice agents, custom API integrations and multi-channel automation. It is the right engagement when the question is not “configure this” but “design the thing that should exist”.

If your account is already configured and simply underperforming, neither of these is right: start with an account audit.

Questions

GoHighLevel Setup — common questions

How long does GoHighLevel setup take?

The configuration itself is usually a matter of days rather than weeks. The variable is A2P 10DLC registration, which is reviewed by external carriers and can take from a few days to a couple of weeks regardless of how quickly we submit it. We start that process on day one precisely because it is the step we cannot speed up.

Can I set up GoHighLevel myself?

Yes — the platform is designed to be self-serve and plenty of businesses do it. The parts that most often go wrong unattended are domain authentication, A2P registration, pipeline design that cannot report later, and data imports with mismatched fields. Those are all fixable afterwards, just more expensively than getting them right first.

What is A2P 10DLC and do I need it?

A2P 10DLC is the registration system US carriers require for business text messaging over standard 10-digit numbers. Without an approved brand and campaign registration, your messages are filtered or blocked outright. If you intend to send SMS to US numbers, it is mandatory rather than optional.

Will you migrate our existing contacts?

Yes. Contacts, notes, tags and history are mapped to the new field structure, de-duplicated and imported. If you are moving from another CRM with substantial history, see our dedicated migration service, which covers the harder cases.

What happens after the setup is finished?

You get documentation and a recorded walkthrough, and the system is yours to run. Some clients take a support retainer for larger changes; many operate independently and come back when they want something new built.
